Throughout the years, there have been a few times that I've questioned whether or not I grew up in the wrong era. That would probably sound absurd to most people that know me because I love my computer, iPhone, iPad, and all of the other technology that we have.
But somtetimes I wonder if that simpler way of life is really the best thing for humanity. That's an entirely different topic though. Anyway, after watching Gone With the Wind I became obsessed with it. I'd even planned my future wedding attire based off of dresses from the movie (I was like 12 at the time). I also read the book, all 1036 pages, in the sixth grade. I loved that movie. I had the screenplay and in seventh grade one of my parlor tricks was that you could choose any line in the movie and I would tell you who said it and give you word for word, the line before it and the line after it. I made my mother watch me act out Scarlett's monologues.
I digress, though, because this is about Anne of Green Gables. I think it was ninth grade when I went on a mission trip with our church's youth choir trip. I had the best time. As we went to each venue, we stayed with a family at different churches. Well, Heather Whitt and I were teamed up with a couple that didn't have any kids. No video games or trampolines to jump on. So our two-night mom (I really wish that I remembered her name so that I could thank her), didn't have many movies for us to watch, except her VHS of the mini-series, Anne of Green Gables. Heather and I stayed up ALL night to see if Anne and Gilbert would hook up. It was late when that movie ended and we were dismayed that they didn't hook up by movie's end. Luckily, we were there for another night and were able to watch the sequel. I have fond memories of watching those movies. So as an adult I purchased both as well as The Continueing Story, which I hadn't known was made.
Once again, I stayed up all night watching those movies...alone. I wanted to share my joy and love for these movies so I recruited my best friend, Melanie, to watch with me. She fell asleep. I begged my husband to watch and he fell asleep as well. So if anyone out there has an affinity for the movies and wants to have a slumber party then just respond. :)
Seriously, it bums me out that no one close to me loves these movies. I guess I'll have to hope that Pressley has a smidgeon of me in her and will love these movies as much as I do.
